# Test a Budget Shift on Paper Before You Move Real Money

The Budget simulator models what happens to your leads if you move part of your budget (or effort) from one channel or campaign to another, as an honest range. It answers “what if we moved 20% from Google to Meta?” and leads with the break-even number.

## What happens to my leads if I move ad budget?

It depends on whether you're planning a shift or reviewing results. To model moving part of your budget from one channel or campaign to another, the Budget simulator gives an honest range and leads with the break-even number. Type /simulate to run it. To see which ads earn their spend now, use Ad creative performance. For search terms, Keyword performance fits better. To follow revenue by channel, pick Revenue by source.

What it is: The Budget simulator is a what-if report from the free UTM Grabber Reports skill for owners and media buyers that models a budget move on your real numbers, as a range.

- Page: https://utmgrabber.com/mcp/reports/budget-simulator/
- Report: Budget simulator (Paid media, revenue and journeys)
- Shortcut: `/simulate [scenario]`
- Sample data from Northwind Dental, a fictional dental practice. Sample headline: “Moving 20% from Meta Ads to Google Ads would cost 17 to 38 leads.”

## What this report answers

- Would moving budget from one channel to another add leads, or cost them?
- What's the low and high end of that change?
- How many extra leads does the receiving channel need to break even?
- Would the reverse shift do better?

Built for: Owners and media buyers about to move budget between channels.

## What's in the report

1. A verdict headline (could add, would cost, a coin flip, or at best flat) with the range.
2. Numbers for leads today, the projected low and high ends, and cost per lead before and after when spend is known.
3. The assumption, in plain words.
4. A waterfall for the 2 channels: today, less from the donor, added in the receiver, plus today vs with the shift.
5. Next steps: test, keep the budget, try a smaller shift, or connect spend first, plus the weekly number to track.

## Why You Can Trust What It Tells You

- **Works even without spend data.** Without spend, the donor loses its share of leads, and the best case is that the receiver wins them all back.
- **Uses your real cost per lead.** With spend, the donor loses leads at its average cost per lead, and the low end assumes the receiver gets less back as spend grows.
- **Ranges with every assumption named.** Every projection is a low to high range, and the notes name every assumption behind it.

## Ask your AI

- `/simulate [scenario]`
- “What if we moved 20% of our budget from Meta to Google?”
- “Simulate shifting 10% from brand search to prospecting.”
- “Would moving budget to LinkedIn add leads?”

## What it uses

- 60 to 90 days of your UTM Grabber leads as the baseline.
- Your scenario: where from, where to and what percent. Names match a campaign first, then an ad platform, then a utm_source.
- Optional: an ad account covering both sides of the shift, for a cost-based model.

### Model a Budget Shift on 60 to 90 Days of Your Leads

Best with your full history. A 60 to 90 day baseline needs Starter+ or Premium. On 30 days, it still runs.

### Which plan do you need?

What your AI can read from UTM Grabber:

- Free plugin: Your last 30 days, with a fair-use allowance
- Starter: Your last 30 days, with first touch and more click IDs
- Starter+ or Premium: Your full history, unmetered (this report)

The report designs need an AI app that supports skills: Claude, Codex or Cursor. ChatGPT gives the same plain-English answers from your leads, without the report designs.

## Questions

### Is this a prediction?

No. It's a model with stated assumptions, shown as a range. If you run the shift as a test, it tells you the weekly number to track.

### What if I don't give it a scenario?

It models your 2 biggest channels and says so in the subtitle, so you can see the shape of a shift before you pick one.

### Why is the best case often flat?

Without spend data, it assumes effort buys the same leads in both channels, so moving effort can at best win back what the donor loses. Connect your ad accounts for a cost-based model.
